"Read me another one",
you asked with soft voice
breathless with anticipation
doe-eyes giving me no choice.
"Please, pretty please
with sugar on top?"
pleading and twinkling
my golden-haired mop.
"This is my fabe-or-it!!",
you cried with delight
I smiled in spite of the brevity
upon this forlorn night.
So I repeated and followed
each word and syllable
and wove our magic
from pages once unlivable,
"E vero che tu sei uno spirito,
ma tu se nata per essere ancora.
Mortale, e tu devi andare
sulla terra e fare a maestra
a donne e a' uomini che avranno
volenta di inparare la tua scuola
che sara composta de stregonerie."*
And yours in reply for
you knew by rote
of the language learned
and what had been wrote:
"Se la Luna adorerai
Tutto tu otterai"**
And closing the bindings
I gathered you to my lap
as we waited for silver beams
to guide us to our nap....
