one halloween night

once upon a moolight halloween night,
many a strange creature came into sight.
ghosts and mummies and witches with cats,
ghoulies and monsters and vampire bats.
prince and princess and jesters too,
a couple of clowns with really big shoes.
hero's of all sorts walked down the streets,
carryng bags stuffed full of treats.
they laughed and they ran from house to house,
a gangster a doll even mickey the mouse!
they'd run to the door on sure footed feet,
knock and knock and yell "trick or treat"
the doors would open and bags were held high,
as goodies were passed out from their joyful cry.
the pumpkins they glowed from every porch,
lit inside from a flickering eerie torch.
the hour grew late and the streets did clear,
there was no more laughter nor any cheer.
it was then that i seen them flying by the moon,
a witch and a black cat sitting on a broom.
the cat's back arched it's tail a like a brush,
and the witch she cackled it gave me a rush!
"too all a spooky hallow night!!
and then they flew right out of sight.
Author's Notes: this was just a quick draft of a poem i used a few halloweens ago, to entertain some children. may not be the best in the world, but they enjoyed it, and has become a standing reading on hallween night.
