Lighthouse of Moore

by Seth
 Age Group: Adult

Lighthouse of Moore
On a stormy midsummer night, the story begins As waves crash about and clouds start to spin A hulk caught in a furious fight One to which it might last the night Upon the little island of Moore There was a lighthouse near the shore Built in the times Romans ruled the earth Of wood and stone, it stood strong since birth Its shining light was the brightest ever seen From western shores and every island in-between Its safe guarding light helped the smallest of cogs Find their way through terrible thick fog Now this lighthouse finds itself in another fight One to make sure this hulk last the night As swelling waves of freezing cold Crash over the bow and into the hold On top of Poseidon's treacherous waves It's dry land the sailors start to crave As the helmsmen spots with his telescope A distant light, a beacon of hope So toward the lighthouse the ship sails Over black waves and through mighty gales A helpful friend it sails to seek For now the storm has reached its peek Neptune's strong and mighty rage Was a driven and focused rampage One that has not been seen in an age One to which it is difficult to gauge The captain wheels his ship about To what the lighthouse has pointed out Avoiding jagged rocks and shallow reefs Allowing the sailors to breath sighs of relief And through the tumbling waves and swirling wind A friend the hulk found, one that it can trust in For if the lighthouse had not been near Death for surely would have been here The ship drops its anchor in good form As by the lighthouse it waits out the storm Now this angry storms new driving force Changes its direction and shifts its course With the help of the lighthouse’s guiding light The hulk floats thankful it had survived the night As clouds break apart and waves now descend It's a cool midsummer day; the story comes to an end
