Eulogy for Tomorrow; Today’s Beggared Forgiveness

Age Group: Adult
Bright is the sun that gathers its fiery haze
and races across the skies;
a chariot that heralds a drought promise
or even heat-split blessings
upon verdant seeds.
Skies electric with the jagged edges
of connectivity, each current
more powerful; the crack upon glazed
heat-razed ash drives the surge
to plummet and arc
a dancing weave.
Dust rumbles and cracks
heaving disfigured millennia
supported by time’s hand, thrusting
the plateaus and vaults
in jig-saw swings
that shake and quake in disarray.
Sea-swept rush waves of life
envelope and devour;
fallen wayside, the plumes of life
snuffed - sea-born, fan-tailed
and boiled; blood seeps deeply
as the voiceless remain
land-locked, weeping.
It is our eulogy for tomorrow, in all its disdain and lack of remorse. Ours, that our mothers and parents gave us, that we fulfill daily for our children that might not ever see their own. And even now, today’s beggared forgiveness is aching to be heard; destiny and karma holding court as our voices, irregular and distant, take on an unending uniform prayer that is only whispered, not shouted:
Forgive us, Mother, for our indifference to your pain as we rush forward; each step takes us further and further from your grace as we pillage and defile what you have lovingly given us
Forgive us, Mother, for our eyes that remain closed to sanctions of oil spilled and wasted in your tears; your life’s blood dried to soothe our greed and ignominy
Forgive us, Mother, for your cries fallen on our deaf ears; your shrieks of rage and disillusion at our attempts to build temples to our own idolatry when yours was the only one we have ever needed
Forgive us, Mother, for destroying your body, for displacing your soul; for denying our children the pleasure of your love….
Forgive us, Mother. We beg of you: Let not our children despair without your guidance, love, and unending support. We, who deny you/have denied you, ask today’s beggared forgiveness – for our children and theirs…
and for yours....
