Unknowing twice

Unknowing twice around the clock where you are
`Cause it's where I am not
Seeking your voice through these fine copper strands
Have you forgotten the numbers
Or who is at the end of my line ?
I guess that you're tired
Do you know that I tried
To put words in your ear that you might hear me
I'd just like when I'm with you for you to be with me
See when it's just you and there's just me
Well, that's when I feel I can really touch you
Hasn't been often so far, what with ringing phones and chaperones
`Cept in your car, not in these bars, shrieking guitars
I need to relate, don't want to negate
The fun you have with new friends
Yet, when I ask you out it's not to be tuned out
What it's about, If I need to shout, you top my list
Not any other it is you that I miss
So because it is upon you that I dote
I'll end on this note (and while hiding your coat)
Ask for your kiss
