The paper stares

The paper stares back at me blank
Defying my attempts to touch it the way you touch me
These words await your eyes to see and feel
Waiting hoping for the end of the waiting
`Cause when you arrive everything is set aright
And I know the sun will come up tomorrow
I heard (hoping to hear) those words in farewell
Now I wait for the smile of your lips to break
Into Hello with those words in greeting
Upon which I will press them into silence with my own
These words mere reflections on paper of
Sounds, noises deep in the back of my throat . . .
Yet, if I can make these noises evoke in you
The feelings I have for you . . .
Myriad cars pass these windows never stopping
Never staring in wonder at who is the otherside, the looking
Glass, Staring back wondering if you're inside one
Like I'm outside another, too many cars passing without
You within, too few cars passing with you within
No car stopping yet not this, not that, no, no wait . . .
may be ahh yesyesyesyesyes oh! Hello !
