Beloved Child Of Mine

The day cast gray
skeins of fog blowing lightly
between fingers of grass
I knew peace for a moment...
and then your grand parade
from the dark, watery cavern of my womb
made my existence upon this plane
insignificant and small
(or so I thought at the time) .
From the moment I touched
your sweet, warm body
I knew undeniable, unescapable love -
a force that could never be denied,
nor ever destroyed.
Watching you grow
I have had the enviable task
of being Mother, Father, Teacher and Friend.
How wondrous is this?
You are the gift of a lifetime
and each day you are here
within this world
your presence fills this world with light -
your gift to us without foreknowledge;
my own delight of the most singular
individual that you are.
Beloved child of mine,
I have but glimpsed at the
scope of the Creator
when I look deep into your eyes
I am the warrior, the huntress,
the mother, the father, the teacher, the friend
that you have never had to ask for
but always had.
My love is unconditional;
ever flowing and always there
at your beck and call....
always within your reach.
I am your Mother
and you will always be...
my own,
Beloved Child of Mine.
Author's Notes: 5/11/04 - For my beautiful daughter, Christina Sophia, upon her twelvth birthday. My beloved child who makes the world brighter with her laughter.
