It's late in

It's late in the evening
the city sounds are muted and far away
Unfortunately for me so are you
far away and silenced by sleep
I don't know how I "should" feel about you
I do know what I do feel
The question is how much of my feelings
can I show to you
I should be angry about last night
But knowing something of the pressures
of your life you're forgiven
I do wish you were as passionate in
thanking me or apologizing as you are in
insulting, cursing or hitting me
I should be jealous and envious of the
unworthy men to whom you have given
your heart, body and souls but I'm not
I feel I am as deserving as any man
of love and I'm decidedly more faithful and honest
than any man I've ever met
I cannot "buy" you or make you love me back
I won't even try that
All I can do is offer support, trust, affection, warmth and
the opportunity for your badly bruised heart
to open itself to caring and sharing
