Dear Mom....

Winter Solstice
and your silence deepened
the long journey to Summerland.
Those behind gather
and weep;
while some rejoice
that you live on whole and at peace.
Eldest of five,
She was called to Service from birth
and became
gatekeeper and guardian
at your passing.
Yet, left with others whose lust of gain
and hatred of her place
within your kindnesses
she knows no rest;
compassion unknown to those
that hunt her though
the same blood flows between them -
she is orphaned by life
and by hatred.
She has not given up;
nor will she,
but will move beyond this
wretched state of affairs.
She holds within her
the beacon for those who are lost;
the sword for those who need protection;
the heart for those who need love.
Your gift to her, his gift to her -
She is your child,
and knows her place
in this World and Beyond.
