You Forgot

If there ever was a way
to tell you that I know
and understand
why you went away
I'd find it....
You were the earth
beneath my feet
when all was sky high
and I was flying by
the seat of my pants.
You were the wall
that braced me
when the winds of
hate slapped at me
defiantly as I stumbled.
You were the sword
that slew those
that would kill me
in the perilous times
of youth.
You were the rain
that gently washed
my tears away
that fell when I
was hurt and in pain.
You were the sun
that warmed me
and nurtured the heart
that held so many
dark corners.
You were the wind
that gave my wings
flight when others
would rather trample
and maim my soul.
Yet I understand now
oh, so well, why you left
when you did but you
forgot something
in the leavetaking......me.
