Desert Rose

i cut out my heart
to be with you
when no one else
would
or could see
that you were all
that I had
and would ever
in this lifetime
of threats
and abominations
yet i cast my own spell
and craved
more than my fair share
and won it all
much to my dismay
for then you left
me cold and dry
desert bone
ice-queen
i became then
for you were
the icicle that
splintered what was
left of my ill-used heart
and the dryness
became a florid
desert
abundant with
night's caresses
that flowered
and nurtured the hole
that was my heart
and became
a deserted rose.
