Haiku Collection: Drawing Down the Moon

by B. T. Newberg
 Age Group: Adult

A lonely raindrop Soft like a knock at the door Calls me to look up
She is the sky-moon And the watery eye-moon Reflecting in me
Body to body A shaft of adoration Touches moon to moon
Her cheeks flush the clouds Her bosom heaves the tides Waxing in passion
She smells like wet earth And tastes like the sap of trees Wet as mist Her touch
Sublime in beauty Supreme in glory, She says "Do not bow to Me"
Though pock-marked and scarred Somehow I'm found Her worthy "I am yours, " She says
Like a darkened cave She opens and urges me To go inside Her
How can it be true? Even in human smallness I am the Goddess
This whole Earth is She And this body, and this life Right here we are One
Her body is mine My body Hers, and this Earth... God intertwining
She is Creation Apart from Her is nothing From Her womb flows all
The full moon peaked Radiant with afterglow Soft wanes Her motion
I feel Her tremble As a lonely raindrop runs Trembling down Her cheek
I hear in the wind And see in the burdened clouds God also suffers
One are we in joy And also in suffering For love of this world
Pain and suffering Come into the world alike With the joy of love
How long must we hurt? "As long as you live, " She says "But I will hold you"
Under a blanket Of clouds, dream-like warm I fade Overcome by sleep

As a Naturalistic Pagan, I believe in evidence. There is no evidence that deities and magic are "real" in the most literal sense, but they may yet be moving and powerful. These poems are a tribute to the inspiration of Pagan ways.
