Betrayal of the Mother

I carried you upon my back
To the world beyond the sea
You looked up to the skies and prayed
I answered every need
You quoted from the book for life
The book that rejects me
And yet I still made wind to fill
Your sails, and fish to feed
I watched over you, both night and day
The way that mothers do
I hoped that maybe someday soon
You’d return, like very few
I gave you sun to light your days
And a nighttime filled with stars
You made it to your brave new world
Thanks to Neptune and to Mars
I dug my toes into the sands
Brought sweet rains to cool the air
I helped you build a fire warm,
Hoped you see me there
But you name this land for Jesus Christ
Just like all the other men
You never looked upon the knife
You held in mortal hands
I journeyed, broken into the trees
To find those who speak my name
Knowing you would find them soon
I fear I am to blame
I should have stopped your gallant ship
Named for sweet lady fair
I see the blood shed on my earth
I know that you were there
I protected you with outstretched arms
Worked magic ribbons in the waves
You sought murder on my people
In the name of he who saves.
