Taija by the Lake
by Goddess child
Age Group: Adult
She sings a woman-song, my child
She trails her scented hand across the water
And spell-bound halts the forest as she sits
The maid of Fey the Gods and I call daughter
Her hair falls forward on her breast
The mother-spirit, poised within her, waits
And I who birthed her and who know her best
Hold tight my heart, which swells before it breaks
Author's Notes: This poem is about a vision I had the night of my daughter's birth of her at sixteen years of age, by a lake, singing. It might seem arrogant to depict one's own child in such a light, but I was experiencing the wonder of a mother gazing on her daughter as a child of the Gods. To have birthed another woman is a very intimate experience!
