Handfasting

"Look into each others eyes today,
let pasts and futures fade away.
Embark on a single path you must,
with loving heart and loving trust."
Author's Notes: Recently I was attending a wedding for a couple in their 60s-70s and the verse popped into my head. It uses artistic license of the Wicca Reed, but seemed to fit the situation since the groom, age 72, who had lost his wife the year before and did not want to be alone, was now marring his first wife's sister, age 62. The groom and his first wife had been married 50 years.
Since the pasts of each, though intertwined in the past, could not affect the future, and the futures that each would have without the other would be lonely and empty, both must start anew within the present and forge another path together.
