Melody

Melodious whispers
Leaves on the trees rustle in the night
Fire pops and crackles
The scent of wood smoke dances
On the breeze; permeates the air
Dark waters of the lake
Lap lazily against the shore
Stars shine down, bathing us
In their stunning, sparkling light
Harvest moon shimmers on the water
Lonely loon calls for a lost mate
Crickets chirp, frogs croak their watery tunes
A fish jumps, plops into the water
Mosquitoes buzz, slap them away
Darkness has fallen, vanquished the day
Night’s creatures have awoken
A cacophony of sound
A melody as ancient as time itself.

Author's Notes: This poem was inspired by the many times spent sitting around the campfire on the beach at my parent's cabin. The beauty of Mother Nature's Melody never ceases to enchant and amaze me.
