Endless Tides

I sit alone on the edge of the waterside cliff
The waves are calling to me,
Reaching to me with their voices of escape
My hair flaps in the moonlit breeze, free like I want to be
I am no longer aware of the existing world
I am only in tune with the voices
They chant to me, such longing do I feel
My heart is now relaxing, and in rhythm with the tides
Back and forth, back and forth
My eyes lock onto the moon far away
How do I wish I could touch it
To be able to leave this place
Would I fly?
Could I dare?
The waves seem to go on forever, as far as my naked eye can see
And I stand now, letting the warm breeze push against me
It comforts me in my time of need
The tears form, I knew they would
They fall from this perch into the sea
Lost forever, as I would like to be
My face seems unknown to those around me
And my voice only a muffled utterance in the cry of the wind
Could I fly?
Could I really fly?
I raise my arms like a bird and lift my pale face to the sky
Slowly, I take a breath
And fly
Without a cry, I fly
Author's Notes: This was a poem I wrote in Jr High, oh so many years ago... I have always had a darker side to my personality and my poetry lets me express that without taking real action. It's my release, my escape. I would honestly never consider suicide, as it truly is the permanent answer to a temporary problem. Besides, harm none means me too! :)
