Chains

Now is the time to cast away the chains that have bound me for so long.
Those that have held me here and kept me from following my deams.
I name them thusly:
Fear: of the unknown and the known, of pain and turmoil and heartbreak.
Anger: directed towards me because I dared attempt to better myself.
Prejudice: due to the fact that I refused to be complacent and always see things as do the status quo.
Hatred: of all that I percieved as good and true and right; seeing these things as evil and wicked.
I have struggled and thrashed and fought and strained against these chains around my heart and soul.
In all my years I never would have dreamed that I would be handed keys for the locks.
I name them thusly:
Friendship: through all my mistakes and misgivings, unbiased by my past and present ways.
Comfort: when my world shakes and my skies tremble and I feel my universe tearing asunder.
Tolerance: no matter how angry or bitter I become, or despondant or tearful or sad.
Love: unconditional and true, the most important key for the largest and rustiest lock of them all.
Author's Notes: I beileve that, for me anyway poetry and prose are a way to purge and heal at times. This is an example of that.
