Another Dedication

I read Addonizio’s poem
about tattoos and their evoked emotion;
I got mine in January.
I used to wonder and attempt
to justify, infuse, an inked scar with reason;
never succeeded.
One night at two, I saw
on the History Channel
the past behind this art.
Two evenings later I found myself
at a shop called Kaleidoscope,
needle gun in my back.
My turn to perch atop the black
leather stool, cold sweaty hands, my
personal merge with a chosen religion
that at eleven years old
had found me first—
And into the base of my back was limned
a symbol of my pagan faith,
freedom,
and relevance.
Author's Notes: My memory about when I got my tattoo (a fourfold symbol: a pentacle that an ankh extends from the bottom with a cresent moon beneath the pentacle forming the crossbit of the ankh part with a raindrop at the very bottom. It's about two inches total, from top to bottom. It is plain black outline) . I wrote it as a response to a tatto poem by Addonizio (I forget the specifics right now) .
