Aerial Totem

Swinging my black leather coat
over my thin shoulders, I think of the crows cawing
in the dawn’s light as I pass the buildings
they nest in.
I am a carrion crawler of my own interests,
like the ebon birds filling my sight;
their presence dictates my actions, the line between
mysticism and magic.
Monarch butterflies glide on weak winds
and I envy their aimlessness, but not for long;
a crow dives to eat, snatches insect from air,
and I taste a six-legger’s guts caught in my craw.
Author's Notes: As said in my 'vox Profile, I know of one of my totems for sure--the Crow. I love Crows. Then again, I love rats, too. I have a kitty right now, though. And ocelots are cool.... But to get to the point, this poem is a personification or anthropomorphic or... no, I'll go with Transformation Poem. Yeah, that sounds about right. Me + Crow = Poem. =)
