Plasma Center Stagnancy

by Rook
 Age Group: Adult

A woman and her boy to my right noisily play; I stiffly sit in a hard plastic chair writing, listening to the oldies strewn from overhead speakers in the waiting room, for the last forty-five minutes cloistered in my long leather coat.
Vague beeps emit from the room that has cushioned slabs for donors to lay; a bottle fizzes, a congested man leans against the wall to my left and I roll my eyes when he coughs without covering his mouth.
I am bored— tap my fingers, stare at sprinkler system nodules in the pocked, yellowed ceiling, wiggle my toes in my sweaty boots— hope my boyfriend finishes bleeding soon so we can go to wonderful Wal-Mart, deposit his work check and bloody cash so we can eat.
I really wish we could go home and hide together already, would rather make love as his head swims, for blood to pump hotly through our bodies, his pierced arm, and breathlessly, be done.
His combat boots twitch impatiently, his arm slung over the side of the rest, sticking out where I finally spy it in the other room’s doorway; finally, now unplugged.
Author's Notes: As the title indicates, I wrote this when I went to meet my boyfirend at the plasma donation center. They pay people to bleed. Peachy. I still don't know if it works very well, but it did go through workshop.
