I’m female and cannot cook, can’t dance,
can barely sing;
you are my lover, yet can sew and make such special things
in the kitchen where you hum.
So much for being girly—I wear baggy pants
and DDR tee shirts, black boots and earrings;
you wear the same,
manly as ever with your left ear pierced.
Wishing I were as outgoing as you is a lost cause,
I’m still shy before I speak;
you walk around without caring, bring laughter
to those you meet.
Many times I want to be like you,
see the world the way you do;
you are so outgoing, and I’m ever thankful to have met you,
you who are so refreshing to know.
Maybe I will learn your secrets
through our private, at home osmosis;
maybe you will take some of my quiet instead,
transform it into something new.
Author's Notes: Poem about my boyfriend, as it turns out. Originally, the idea came from talking with a friend, and I noticed that she talked a lot about having cooked for her bf, and sewed, etc. I'm just not that great at those things. =p Hence, poem.
