Fleeing from Before

Quick staccato footsteps follow
like an ill-gotten ex-lover,
clip claps on sidewalk betraying silence
after passing, hard rubber soles;
they trail boldly, a force I can’t deny,
can’t escape. It’s like trying
to outrun a dead past, a ghost rattling
ungainly, cobwebbed chains.
Author's Notes: In reference to an ex who used to stalk me. Funny, ha ha. *rollz eyes at self* Yeah... Thought it turned out okay, though.
The poem was inspired from a pair of shoes my mum gave me, which must be made with a harder rubber cause they sound like high heels on the sidewalk. Annoyed me all day, so I wrote the poem.
Thought the added meaning (the ex) was good. The ghost part refers to my thinking back.
