Up the Beanstalk

I am often asked how the weather is
in my stratosphere, but I tend not to answer,
usually never heard the question; the air must be thick
where my ears live.
Most mornings when alone, I notice
half-colored rainbows that silhouette the horizon
on the other end of the street near my house; I sit
on the sidewalk, wait for the bus,
look in the chilly grass for magic beans.
Later in the day, walking
among the everyday throngs of people, cattle, I glance down,
see their eyes, notice dismayed frowns as I stumble
over them as they scatter out of my way. They are like ants
to me, I think to myself; I feel
like my head truly is “in the clouds, ” that I’m clueless
as the jolly green giant and the other beanpoles I pass, searching
their eyes, familiar as my own at this height.
I wonder at how I can sell the golden goose’s eggs
from underneath my own nose.
Author's Notes: Was just feeling tall (being 5'10 and all) . Reposted it so I could nix the other two, the cruddy original, and the second posting that had a badly written "revised" title. Bon appetit.
