Hallows

I look for trust in your body,
rediscover your fleshy planes when I become
almost randomly enamored and use my lips
to express the feeling bursting behind my eyes.
I tell you that I am going to kiss you now
but rather than immediately and expectedly seeking
your soft lips, I look to the insides
of your ankles, behind your calves and knees and thighs.
Moving upwards over your nudity, I kiss
the crease between your legs and belly and then your sides,
before I move to the curve by your shoulder and collarbone
and then your beautiful bistre eyes.
You have thus far lain pliant beneath my own naďve nakedness
but gently now, it is finally time
for you to turn over in this lighted fog of my tenderness
and surrender more of your faith to my meek ministrations.
With lowered eyelids darkening my brown eyes,
I go back to your ankles and kiss the other side;
proceeding again to your buttocks, I kiss the crease
beneath them, and then the small depths of skin upward and after.
Your back is a broad marvel, and I use my tongue
and accentuate the small embrace my lips provide
on your sides and beneath and between your shoulders;
now my attentions turn to your nape, and then your temples.
Low and breathy next to your ear, I tell you then
that I apologize for the days
that I am obnoxiously attentive to your space,
that I am only enamored and excited by these hallows I find.
Author's Notes: I wrote this for my fiance. Basically a snapshot blow-by-blow of a moment between us.
And a lot more user-friendly than the poem I wrote about my dad.
