Scrying I (The Task)

Age Group: Adult
Still clear waters that reflected like glass
The opportunity was too great for her to pass
She walked on her path under silver light
As the moon was full and at it’s prime height
Barefoot she walked on soft moss and hard stone
Cloaked in white robes she herself had sown
Her golden hair hanging down to her waist
Framing the shape of her round Irish face
Slowly she ventured through the darkened woods
Her eyes cast down under her white velvet hood
They need not be open for her to see
Her heart knows the way and her senses take lead
Finally she reached her destination
With in hand for the Gods a libation
A sacred Merlot she herself had prepared
Its sweet scent lifted on the cool spring night air
She knelt before the ancient stone lined well
Surrounding it was a familiar smell
A heavy deer musk and a floral scent
The Lord and The Lady were both present
She grounded herself and cleared her mind
Then slowly she stared to pour the wine
Crimson at first then the water turned black
Now before her lay a dark liquid glass
She gazed into the mirror, her thoughts still
Shapes, images, an awaking chill
Startled she closed her eyes and fell
Was what she saw true and how could she tell?
Perhaps the future, perhaps just a thought
Unraveling this her heart and mind fought
What was mystery and what had been real?
Was it symbolism or the truth revealed?
She collected herself then calmed her nerves
The mirror rippled and from it she turned
Standing up she walked away from the glass
Thanked the Gods and started home on her path
Late that night while beside a warm fire
Silent she sat as her body grew tired
Perhaps in her sleep the answers would come
For the moment being her task was done.
Author's Notes: I've always fancied longer poems and this one turned out to be just that so I chopped it in half and made it into two parts. They can be read together as one or apart from another and still hold their own. This is Part One.
