Scrying II (The Reflection)

Age Group: Adult
Try as she might the young witch could not sleep
Truth was hidden in the mysteries too deep
The mirror had shown her a chilling sight
Leaving her cold and alone in the night
Sitting up straight she looked into the flame
Tended the fire then sat with crossed legs
Aligning her spine and closing her eyes
She lifted her chin up toward the sky
Above her dark blue below her bright green
Yellow red flames under silver moon beams
She took a deep breath and exhaled real slow
As she recalled what the mirror had shown
It was vague at first then vivid as day
The well, the wine, the whole vision replayed
It looped in her mind as she gazed forward
Partly intrigued partly filled with horror
Frustrated and drained and angry as well
The answer she knew only time would tell
Apparently she was not meant to know
At this moment what her future would hold
She asked why then she’d seen what she had seen
If not to discover what it could mean
Now was a new thought that picked at her brain
Had it all been a waste? Or just a game?
Then out of the clamor that clouded her mind
Escaped a though that began to unwind
Just when she thought she was losing it all
Small droplets of answers started to fall
Perhaps not a key to the vision she’d seen
But non the less it was still a good lead
She’d thought of the task she’d performed that night
Focusing on the act and not the sight
When one scries just what is it that they do?
We look through the reflection not into
We try to peer underneath what we see
Through our reflections our answers we reach
To see our future we take from the past
Old knowledge gives way to what has not passed
The young witch had learned a new mystery to life
There is always more behind what we see when we scry.
Author's Notes: I've always fancied longer poems and this one turned out to be just that so I chopped it in half and made it into two parts. They can be read together as one or apart from another and still hold their own. This is Part Two.
