In 2007, I Find I Miss Myself

I sit I read I write I bend before you
I yield I yearn I look I allow my emotions
to be walked on like so many bricks I’ve stuck together
with the crumbling cement of youth
This year is some kind of change
in my life, the new sweeps out the old, but I bring it back
ever, ever back like that dissolving shore I saw
at the Gulf one week with the boy I thought loved me
I’ve hurt so hard, lately, immersed
in such bittersweet, cliché memory, and sometimes have found
I can barely stand my own face glancing frightfully back at me
from the mirror in my bathroom, down and back through odd years
I’ve ever been the child of Spirit, a child who looks for Truth
in the vastness of this world I hardly know how to define
but here I am, years after I thought I’d return to my mind –
no – years after allowing my mind to sink into the briny fog of Ego
A fog through which I can barely see, kind of like
my fiancé’s goldfish swimming through an algae-covered
tank by the living room window, I have been left to ponder through
on my own, maybe, maybe – eventually – I’ll find my own Truth
