Stream of Thought

What has my life held for me
that I should encounter years so bereft of ecstasy?
I have lived an existence bare of feeling,
surviving to do what I thought was right--
Yet it wasn't, and I failed
to do what I knew was correct for me...
Caught, closed in, the door to loving
shut tight in my face...
I couldn't pry it open, as hard as I tried--
until I rejected the 'love' that held me in, and found out
how deadly was its poison, it fed to me
by deception's visage.
Now I am righting what has been so wrong,
am finally making the good moves to regain my freedom
to salvage my spirit from the mud it tossed back--
impotent rage fueling my new resolve...
I concluded the other day that I am living again,
my paw not so much caught in the steel trap as I thought.
Feelings used, generosity abused, I find I have a spine again...
and am impressed that's actually true.
But what of you, or do I make more
of what has come freely into my life?
I have no desire to close you in as I had become--
so make no mistake I wish to own you - I don't.
I only want to love you, that evasive thing
that has been kept from me
in the name of duty, of debts.
You brought me back to myself, shed a little bit of light
into my world
showed me that I can still feel right.
