Bountiful Autumn

Leaves fall, gathering alongside the curb and my eyes glaze over with delight.
Anticipation and a stirring deep within me arouse my senses.
The air, the earth; they smell now of autumn
And as the colorful assortment of summer’s foliage begins to decay I come alive.
The forest around me will soon appear barren and desolate to most.
However, for one such as myself, it is more esthetically pleasing this way.
Riding herself of the year’s growth Mother Earth sheds her skin like a snake,
Anxious to feel the warmth of the sun’s golden beams on her bare skin
If only for a moment
In fact the horizon itself seemingly illuminates her in orange, red and brown hues.
All of which catch my eyes and hold them.
The colors remain even when I close my eyes.
I am replenished. I see bare earth and dark soil. I see her in her most naked form
And while others might mistake this appearance as bland; I cannot. Nor ever will I, I imagine
Because as the days wane and a chill intertwines with the wind, there is still much warmth to behold.
Comfort can be found in a cold serenity and still.
And most truths themselves are learned when striped away of all the spectacles that may distract.
Distract us from a truly complex simplicity.
The Autumn Witch embraces this. I embrace this.
By no means would I ever say I have seen a truly bleak autumn or completely barren winter.
The last harvest and full hunter’s moon have always blessed me with bountiful truths.
Truths that give way to a much needed rebirth.
Changed by the season. Moved by its breeze.
I am enlightened by the waxing nights.
Fall has finally come
And so I shine in the suns absence.
Ever grateful.
Ever mindful.
And very much alive.
Another bountiful autumn indeed.
Author's Notes: Okay, so it's no where near Autumn yet, but I've just recently became internet capable in my own home once more (after too long of a time without it) and wanted to add this to my other poems. I thought it would be a nice start to getting back in touch with my beloved Witchvox site!
