Rain Dance of the Deer

Age Group: Adult
Lighting in the distant clouds
Droplets falling to the ground
Father Sky sets the beat
Swiftly now she moves her feet
Frolicking to and fro
Ever graceful is the doe
Thunder rumbles in the sky
Like a dragon come alive
Faster now she capers ‘round
Charged by feeling and by sound
Heartbeats vibrate like a drum
All at once the herd doth run
Chasing after wind and rain
Stag and Matron lead the way
Over stumps and over creeks
Quickened trot and timely leaps
Through the woods to open glen
Here the ancient dance begins
Stomping, scraping up the dirt
Rolling ‘round on dampened earth
Jumping, sprinting here and there
Some alone, some in pairs
Grunting, groaning, joyful bleats
Harmonize with bold hoof beats
Basking in Natures shower
Bringing forth Divine power
Tails and antlers reaching high
Magic’s rhythm fills the night
A current builds, floods, and spreads
Lighting strikes above their heads
Then silence falls, all is still
Clouds ascend into the hills
The Maiden Moon now revealed
The Herd beds down in the field
Glistening coats shine and sheen
The storm has passed like a dream.
