They Will Be Here Soon

The plates were on the table, it was almost noon,
She waited by the window, they would be here soon.
She had been cooking, since before day-light,
This special day, everything must be just right.
Her old hands were shaky, her hair had turned gray,
Working hard to raise them, since there dad passed away.
Hours passed by slowely, the days light grew dim,
She couldn't understand what had happened to them.
She dialed there number, no-one was there,
She reheated the food, & hurried back to her chair.
"A truck " she thought, "they are trying to play."
"They are all comeing, they are all on there way."
She watched to see them turn in from the street,
Her tired body weakend, she fell off to sleep.
It was almost midnight, was she still alone?
Had she been dreaming, had they all come & gone?
She went to the table, "I'll sit here & wait."
Her sad heart stopped, she slumped over her plate.
The next day her neighbors found her that way,
Still waiting for them, on her last Mother's Day!
