The rain goes trickling down the pane, the lightning lights his face,
The old man looks & grabs his cane, & goes to the door in haste.
The thunder roars deep in the night, it rings inside his ears,
His heart goes back to that fateful flight, w/ his beloved one so dear.
The rain poured down, the thunder roared, the lightning lit the way,
He carried her on his trusty mare, that stormy wedding day.
The wind & rain blew in his face, he could not see ahead,
His heart beat fast & deep in his chest, as onward the lovers fled.
He could not see the warning sign; the bridge had washed away,
He pulled her close & held her tight; the time had come to pray.
The water rose around them high, as the horse began to swim,
She slipped into the night, the water dark & dim.....
The tears ran down his wrinkled face, w/ sobs he could not hold,
His life has been a lonely waste, w/ memories so cold.
