A Week In May

He found a baby bird fallen from it's nest,
Abonded by the rest...& he loved him.
He kept him in the shade of the lilac tree,
He was too little to be free...& he loved him.
He ran home from school to feed him bits of bread,
Stroked his tiny head...& he loved him.
He had him for a week, & held him when he died,
And I cried...becuse he loved him.
Beneath the lilac tree he buried him that day,
The sky was dripping gray...becuase he loved him.
