Ballad Of The Class Ring

Next to the doorway he paused to stand,
He removed his classring from her hand.
Those who watched could not speak,
As they watched the tears flow down his cheeks.
All through his mind sweet memories ran,
Of their shared joys when love began.
They watched in awe & awkward fear,
When he sighed, "I love you" in here ear.
With his ring on his finger he kissed her goodbye,
Then turned away & began to cry.
The doors swung open to let the wind blow,
As they carried her casket out to the snow.

Author's Notes: Dedicated to a very special teen that was killed by a drunk driver in a accident I worked. She died on scene while I was holding her hand & telling her everything was going to be alright. I have always hated working accidents, but even more so when it was caused by a drunk driver & a child or teen is involved. Her boyfriend had given her his classring, but it was given back to him by her parents when the paramedics returned her personal effects to her parents. Please don't drink & drive, it could be your child or mine whose life you put in danger.
