Mother's Final Prayer

Age Group: Adult
My childhood years as I recall, we sat at mother's knee,
And fell asleep as she was singing, Rock Of Ages Cleft For Me.
We had no wealth, but rich in love, the days were hard & long,
Though weary from the toils of life, she always sang a song.
Her gentle voice would cheer our hearts, when life seemed dark & gray,
She taught us how to trust in Goddess, to help us on lifes way.
All through those years we always knew our mother's love & care,
Sometimes we came home late at night, we'd find her waiting there.
We didn't understand back then why mother couldn't rest,
She seemed to fear that harm would come, to those she loved the best.
Then came that day that we were called together by her bed,
"The children are all with you now." the family doctor said.
She smiled once more that soft smile, then prayed for Goddess to keep,
Her children safe thru-out the years, then closed her eyes in sleep.
She prayed for Goddess to guide each step, until we meet her there,
Together again our spirits shall meet, this was her final prayer.
