If I Could Say Thank You

by MysticIvy

Age Group: Adult

If I could say thank you, where would I start?

For there's so many things that happened way back when.

When I sat upon your knee up so very high,

And shared my hopes & dreams, or even to just cry.

You never lost faith in me, even when I had,

My pain was yours, & sometimes it made you sad.

You couldn't always stop the pain, because I had to learn,

But you knew from this mistake, it was knowledge I would earn.

You showed me what was right from wrong,

You was my strength, when I was not strong.

A shoulder or hand you often leant,

Often not knowing how much it meant.

If I could say thank you, for all that you've done,

There would be so many things, not just one.

Not only my daddy, but as my friend,

You lessened the hurt, & helped my heart mend.

You'de stand by my side through so very much,

You'de hold my hand, you were my crutch.

When the wrong road I often took,

Through a daddy's eyes you'de watch me make,

You'de lift me up & show me the right path, the right way,

Then stand back & watch, hope & pray.

Never giving up, when again I'd get lost,

Helping me again, no matter what the cost.

If I could say thank you, for all the times that you were there,

When I thought alone the pain I could not bare.

For wiping tears, or holding my hand,

Or supporting me when alone, I could not stand.

You were never far away, when I needed you most,

When in person, or phone, or through the post.

I often failed & caused you great pain,

The scars on your heart, the tear often a stain.

You never gave up, or turned your back,

You're heart & love, you never did lack.

If I could say thank you, to the first man in my life,

He is my daddy, I always his daughter, now a mother & wife.

If it wasn't for you, I may never have known,

From the little girl lost, to the woman I've grown.

For without your guidance, your strength, your trust in me,

I wouldn't have turned out to be the woman you see.

So all of the thank you's that have went unsaid,

For all the paths that we have lead.

There's one clear path I would never stray,

It's in how much I love you in every way.

And I want you to know, I'll never stop needing you,

Or your strength & your love thats helped me through.

All the times I was lost & alone, & the tears would sting,

You are always my daddy, my friend, & the wind beneath my wings.
