Leaving You Behind

I turn from you & walk away,
I don't look back, you'll ask me to stay.
Let me go now, before it's too late,
Before all thats left is anger & hate.
I don't wan't to hurt you, or cause you pain,
There is nothing here, theres nothing to gain.
You say you'll never know me, that is true,
There are many things I have hidden from you.
Don't stop me now, I really must go,
There are parts of me, you need not know.
I can't be what you need me to be,
I'm a empty shell, can't you see?
I got too close, & fell too fast,
Of course I knew it would never last.
I'm sorry I really can't stay by your side,
The hole in my heart, is much too wide.
Somewhere out there is the one for you,
Someone who'll love you, & always be true.
I can't make you laugh & smile, or your dreams come true,
I can only break your heart, & wish me... you never knew.
I'm bitter & cold & spiteful as hell,
This you've felt, I dealt it well.
Baggage was brought & it wasn't fair,
Sh*t was said without a care.
Don't hate me now, I really must leave,
Don't be sad, for me don't grieve.
You'll feel better once I'm gone,
With your life you can move on.
For just a moment I saw my soul,
It was just a second w/ you I stole.
One last thing before I walk away,
For what it is worth I did love you... in my own way.

Author's Notes: written 10/1/04 Ugh... to love someone so much. At times you wonder is it worth it? They say you always hurt the ones you love the most... for me this must be true.
