This Gift

Sit down for a moment, take a little time,
Listen now once again, as I make a little rythm.
Today is your birthday, a gift I could not find,
So here is a poem, I hope you do not mind.
I set out to find the perfect gift, this was my intended goal,
But where to find a special gift to touch your heart & soul?
No fancy mall, or boutique shop, could I find a special treasure,
No flower shop, no antique store, nor catalog came close to measure.
Though many cards were beautiful, none came close in how to convey,
To tell you of the many thoughts, or things I want to say.
I thought of something homemade, or maybe something built,
Another set of salt & pepper shakers, no, & flowers they would wilt.
Cambell's collectables, or chocolates, but they too would perish,
No this had to be a special gift, one that you could cherish.
So what I ask could I find, for this special occassion;
Something wonderful, for this birthday celebration.
It may not be much, & it's not too heavy to lift,
It's not wrapped in fancy paper, or too tiny of a gift.
The thing I found to give you, isn't long or very wide,
It come's from within me, & it's always by your side.
It's not in stock or season, it can't be planted, bought or sold,
It's more rare, precious & valuable than any diamond or gold.
It doesn't collect dust, sit on a shelf, or even hang on a wall,
It can't be measured or copied, & it isn't really tall.
No-one else can own it, or even place a claim,
They can't say they invented it, it doesn't have any fame.
It's not something baked, & it doesn't ever expire,
It's not bright or lacy, no it's no kind of attire.
It won't make you rich, it carries no wealth,
No need to sweat, it's not for your health.
Have you guessed yet what I've choosen through this silly rythm?
It wasn't expensive, it didn't cost a dime.
It's the love from a daughter to her mother, a bond no other shares,
It's all our hopes & dreams, our secrets & our prayer's.
It's knowing that material possessions have very little value, although some are very rare,
It's knowing when the end has come, as we wait upon the Golden Stair;
We can always count on each other, to know that we'll be there,
To me it's very special, this bond for you & I as a pair.
This gift to you my mother, is a love & bond that can never be broke,
It's all that I am inside, it's all I've never spoke.
It's more then being a daughter or friend,
It's a love so strong it can never end.
So as your birthday will pass on by into another day,
This special gift will continue to give my love, & will always stay.
