Having picnics out in the yard-
With the balloons Grandma had bought.
You'd never know living was hard-
From all the food that was brought.
Making Ice-Cream on the front porch-
Taking turns sitting on the Ice-Cream machine.
Sweating like crazy, with heat that scorched-
Waiting to go swimming in the ravine.
Later we'd gather to shoot fireworks-
Adults hovered, making sure we weren't hurt.
Others played with their Hula Hoops, intensely-
While others were hogging & being stingy!
Iced Tea, Lemonade, & Pies, we had it all-
The only setback was being young, small.
For we were raised, adults ate first-
But..., we could drink until we burst.
At least, we'd have fireworks later-
A festive time in which we gathered.
Somehow we celebrated regardless of weather-
We could storm anything, together!
