My mind often lingers on days of yesterday-
When time was only one step away.
A time when time seemed to stand still-
And when only the present moment felt real.
It's those wonderful moments that I most recall-
When we were all together and I was small.
The family picnics that were held in the yard-
Homemade ice-cream that was churned until hard.
Boiled Peanuts and fresh lemonade served on the front porch-
While feeling the heat from the sun that was scorching.
Swinging in the swing from dusk until dawn-
Always feeling a sense that this was where we belonged.
Together in the fields working hard and long-
Playing in the woods with lots of cousins along.
Riding bikes around the huge oak tree in the driveway-
Having no worries, only what to play.
Taking turns in helping prepare the meals that we loved to eat-
Watching grandma and Mama while they baked those miracle sweets.
Helping Grandma chase and feed the chickens before it got too late-
It's those wonderful Days of Yesterday that I pray I'll never forget.
