Sneaking Into the Woods

Sneaking Into the Woods

Sneaking off into the woods-
Off for an adventure, because we could!
Ignoring what we had been told-
Discovering what lay hidden across the road.
We'd head to the clearing in the bend-
Where the thicket had been thinned.
Following the trail that lead further back-
Where we could play & act.
Off where the vines hung from the trees-
To act like Tarzan, swinging freely.
One or two at a time-
We'd take turns swinging on the vines.
In the mud-holes scattered about-
Searching for tadpoles, to gather & count.
We'd scoop them in a jar-
To carry with us near & far.
And on our way home, we'd stop-
By the pond, to throw rocks.
Skipping stones across the water-
Admiring the ripple, with my sister & brother!
Author's Notes: This brings back such innocent and sentimental times in my life. It's a precious memory!
