For King and Country

( Dedicated to the Cameronian and Argyl and Southerland Highlanders of WW1 and WW2, Who fought and died for their country.)
Torn
where once the world filled
harboured the thought, No! The dream
of tomorrows liberating stream
Of beliefs and characterizations.
Dim the view
that intercedes
bleeds
upon the mark of fate
to congregate
here where breath and life ebbs
towards the uncertainty.
The fear
that haunts the approaching moment
Delivers there to inwardly torment
The passing moment that plays
Till life becomes a blur.
Pain
that anguish that spills
fills
each movement, orb of space
within and without.
The past inward flies
cries
upon the darkened hour
and there resides.
The longing for
the comfort of
Childhood visions
pressing,
stressing
upon the moments ebb.
That final sigh
the last goodbye
That stretches out within a cry
and drops a tear from a glazed eye
To die
for King and country.
