Voodoo Jungle

Any way I say
That ring is distinctive
It’s the ring that doesn’t come
That phone stays calm for now
Liza purrs on my lap
Large and black
Like the hole in my head
That wakes me up
At three thirty every
Every foggy morning
He stares into space
When he’s not with me
She tells him the lies
That cover the smell
So rotten and vulgar
I can’t even begin to imagine
What potions were concocted
In the voodoo jungle
That makes him so rigid
And a slave to ire
That makes him a slave
I often wonder this
At three a.m.
When all the world is dreaming
But I can’t spell it
The magic’s newer
Than me
Author's Notes: Okay, fine. This is one of my sort of, professional poems. It's on it's way to my editor. So when he says, "Girl, get your proofing hat on, " I'll have to delete it.
I put this poem as Pagan/Liturgical because it describes a kind of dark magic worked against me. It's different, but it's colorful.
