The Goddess’s Sight

In the darkness of night,
In the shadows by light,
Hides the fear from my mind,
My spirit, it binds.
Will it consume?
Can I not fight?
Is it my death?
My demise?
My blight?
In my dreams are shown
The visions of pain,
Of suffering children,
The blind, deaf, and lame.
They show me the blood
Of my lovers and friends.
I see their beginnings,
And all of their ends.
I see all these things,
But where are they from?
Do they come from within?
Are they simply a whim
Of the evil inside
I work hard to abide?
We all have it in us
In our different ways.
Mine sits within me,
And that’s where it stays.
But does it want to come out?
To wreak havoc and reign?
To cause tears in the eyes
Of innocents in pain?
No, that can’t be what’s happening to me.
That can’t be all these things that I see.
Of course I may just be naďve,
Or in denial of what’s to be.
I just want to help.
I just want to heal;
To give all the starving
A warm, home-cooked meal.
To tend to the wounds
Of the ones that I love.
I want to protect
All I hold dear,
And destroy this annoying,
And crippling fear.
I can’t say, “I know what to do.”
But I can say that I’ll make it through.
The Goddess is watching me carefully now,
And guiding my spirit,
And telling me how…
How I can live,
How I can fight,
And that deep within me…
Lies ultimate might!
I’ll live in light,
Sleep through the night,
‘Cause I know that I’m safe
In the Goddess’s sight!
Author's Notes: I'm a real amateur at poetry. I may not be good at all, but that doesn't bother me.
I wrote this to acknowledge the fact that there is an evil part inside me, just like there is in everyone one else. I'm expressing that there is a twinge of fear as to why I have such a destructive side within me when what I really want is to help and heal those I love. Perhaps it's bitterness, against those that don't understand me/us, that I need to expunge. In the end I realize that I am being watched by the Mother Goddess, and she will protect me. She will show me what I need to do. She will show all of us what to do if we simply listen.
