A Blessing And A Curse

Age Group: Teen
Some are afraid
Others are not
The rest of us, the majority
Alternate between the two
The Night is a mystery
Of shadows
And specters
Not all can see
The moonless night is terrifying
Blackness utter and complete
Fear of the unknown
Grips tightly at our hearts
What is out there?
Evil beings with foul intent?
Or those just waiting in the wings to comfort us?
Or is it nothing at all?
If at all possible, the full moon is worse
Ancient legends haunt us
The trees glow eerily
There are more shadows, long and foreboding
In the darkness, there may lurk perverts
May lurk rapists
Mar lurk thieves and murderers
In these ways, the night is a curse
Night obscures the vision
Allows us to perceive what others are
Not just what they seem to be
Look to be
When the night arrives
You can see the moon
The stars
All the better to hear their song
To the ancient peoples
Black was the color of birth
Of the womb
Of new beginnings yet to happen
Night is the unknown
The yet to be discovered
The joy, the wild ecstatic joy of Life
Can be better felt, during the Night
Animals come out of their dens
The dazzling terrible beauty of light and thunder
Can be seen and felt and heard,
Tasted and smelt; the Night is a blessing
A blessing and a curse
A glorious swirl of
Fear and Joy
Pain and Pleasure
The Day will come
With His own blessings and curses
But now is the Night
Let us revel in Her beauty
Author's Notes: If you have read other poems of mine I have posted, you will likely see patterns. I am fascinated by the Night, as well as thunder and lightning. Thus, it is reflected in my poetry.
