Your Greatest Nightmare? Yep. That Would Be Me.

What if I'm not what I seem?
And what if I'm different on the inside?
What if I told you I'm living a lie?
Many lies
What if I told you my words on Sunday are a hologram?
A hologram that shows you what you want to see?
What if I am your greatest nightmare?
What if I told you that deep down at my core, I'm actually one of the things you hate most?
And what if it turned out that what you suspected and I denied was the truth?
What if I'm the opposite of everything you've raised me to be?
What if I'm hiding my secret right under your nose?
That I'm displaying it for all to see, but you fail to notice?
Or do you choose not to?
What if I told you that when I'm all alone and shrouded by the safety of Night I live another life?
What if I became your own personal anathema?
And what if I already am?
You say you're so proud of me
That I will achieve great things
That you're glad to have me as your daughter
That I am a great hero just waiting for her chance to save the world
But what if I'm not the hero in your story?
What if I'm the villain?
What?
No, I don't do drugs!
No, it's nothing like that either
No, it's not that, I don't even have a boyfriend!
No, it's nothing bad.
What is it then? Well...
Yes, of course this is all hypothetical!
But what if I told you that you should forget everything I just said, Mom?
What if?
Author's Notes: My personal situation isn't that bad, with the hate and the anathema and the nightmares, but I think it sounds better with the hyperbole, and I'm sure some people's is.
