Darkling Child

The darkling child
Cries in the night
To fire and earth and air
The water rocks
And cradles him
In this time he becomes aware
The longest night
It waits for him
It slumbers and
It dreams
This longed-for light
It's fate for him
His sleep is done
It seems
A cry rings out
Into this night
He's born! Here comes the sun!
A sigh breathes out
Her child of light
Has come, and her wait is done.
Author's Notes: The child within us all awaits rebirth.
