My Recovery

Age Group: Adult
A knife in my heart,
Twisted.
I'm sorry,
You're sorry,
We're all sorry.
But we're not,
Are we?
Twenty-six full moons,
At most, at least,
Have seen my tears,
Have seen my anger,
My rage,
My boiling, bottled disgust...
My smiles,
My recovery.
This is a recovery,
Isn't it?
You're my private methamphetamine.
With you I had "confidence, "
I had "strength."
Then, ripped from me
For reasons my mind
Still have not known,
My withdrawals were this:
Trembling, staring in horror
At a computer screen,
Blackened eyes staring back, like
A false mirror.
Quaking, choking on words,
Words that in vain hope
Might make you recant
Those dark cruelties.
(They had been.
Physically,
At least.)
Oh vile drug,
I purge you
From my system!
This place will not
Be defiled!
Anger,
Anguish,
Rage,
Outrage.
Never again!
My recovery
Is, at last,
Complete.
Author's Notes: I put this under 'Healing' because this was my way to heal myself, by gathering that negative energy and pushing it through my pen and onto paper.
