A Jar Of Fireflies

You gave me a jar of fireflies,
That light my night, this knight in tarnished armor.
Your eyelids flutter in your sleep,
Lost in a dream they dance like butterflies.
The night breeze plays across my back
And as I lay watching you, I know that
A thousand zephyr chills could never match
The shiver that plays down my spine,
Dancing in through my heart,
Teasing my mind, my soul, my being;
The shiver you incited many moons ago
That has yet to play out.
The light scent of lavender
Lays heavy in the air
As I drift off,
Fighting to retain consciousness,
Drinking in your beauty.
I shift my weight quietly, slowly,
Careful not to wake you,
Yet lost in a dream
You bless me with the slightest smile,
Acknowledging my presence.
My tiniest movement, my mundane thoughts,
Elicits your response.
To have been invisible for so long
It marvels me that I cannot hide from you.
Not in shadows, not in sleep, not in myself.
Some can give butterflies in the stomach.
You’ve given me fireflies in my heart.
